Heading up for a ten day hitch
It's Saturday night and I'm in Leadville. I wanted to update you all before I head back up the mountain. I am meeting a group of Rocky Mountain Youth Corps (RMYC) tomorrow morning. RMYC has partnered with CFI in the past and it has worked very well. The RMYC area a youth corps ages 18-24. They spend a summer doing mostly trail work in the rocky mountains. They will be spending the rest of the summer with us. I expect that we will get a lot of good work done. Don't be saddened though. There are still opportunities to volunteer. If you are interested in working with us just check out our website 14ers.org and contact us. We will take people anytime we are up there.

I believe my daughter is leading the RMYC crew that you will be working with. I am inferring this, since I talked to her from Leadville on 8/1 and she and her crew were scheduled to begin work with CFI on Mt Massive 8/2. I'm looking forward to any photos you might post. Also--is it really true you have cell phone service at the base camp?
ReplyDeleteHello Anonymous! All that you say is true. We worked with your daughter this past week and a half. She told me that you found my blog before she was even up there. We do have cell phone reception at base camp. We have an east facing camp which faces the town of Leadville where the nearest tower is. This gives us a direct line of site. Your daughter and the RMYC crew were great to have up on the mountain. I wish I had more photos but my camera wasn't working this hitch. I have a few from my phone I will post. Check out anitrakass.com. She took some pictures of the crew and I assume she will post them.
